GOOGLE translator has saved the day during a mid-air scare that forced an Emirates A380 to make an unexpected stop over in Perth.
The flight from Auckland to Dubai, via Sydney, was flying over inland WA when a passenger, who does not speak English, went into labour.
Two doctors on-board helped the woman through her contractions using Google translate, as the crew announced a medical emergency landing.
Passenger Richard Palfreyman told WA Today that the incident happened as the plane flew over the town of Meekatharra about midnight on Monday.
“The captain came on the intercom to say we were diverting to Perth for a medical emergency,” he said.

“We were dumping fuel from the wings to get the weight down for landing.
“Then there was a call for any women passengers who could speak Russian.”
Palfreyman said it took about an hour for the plane to make the dash to Perth, before the woman was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
The plane resumed its journey shortly after.
“Just before our delayed arrival into Dubai the captain announced the passenger had been taken to hospital where she delivered a baby girl,” he said.
“Mother and daughter doing well to the applause of tired but happy passengers.”
