AN AIRPORT has been evacuated after traces of an explosive substance were found on a piece of luggage.

The departure hall of Skavsta Airport in Stockholm, Sweden has been cleared and a bomb squad sent in to investigate.

“The baggage and departure halls were evacuated, which has affected departing flights but not arrivals,” a police spokesman said.

“The bag in question belongs to an elderly lady and she is co-operating with us ... She says she doesn’t know how the powder got on her bag.”

Skavsta Airport, located approximately 96km from Sweden’s capital city, is the fifth largest in the country and handles 2.5 million passengers a year.
