Enough to make you sick ... A couple have posted shocking footage of a hotel bed infested with bed bugs.
IT WAS the holiday nightmare in New York City.
A Californian couple has sent shivers down fellow travellers’ spines after posting footage of what appears to be a gigantic bed bug infestation in one of Manhattan’s most well-known hotels.
Elgin Ozlen and his girlfriend were staying at the Astor on the Park hotel for New Year’s when they discovered a swarm of unwelcome creepy critters had gatecrashed the party.
Having already been moved out of two rooms after just two nights thanks to failed heating and power outlets, a fed-up Ozlen decided to chronicle the disgusting experience.
“I wanna let everyone know, today’s my birthday and this is what my experience has been,” Ozlen said in mobile phone footage.
“I noticed today my girlfriend’s arm and side and stomach in a full rash from what I assume came from outside, but really, it came from this bed.
“I flipped the bed over, where we discovered an infestation of bugs the size of your pinky nail. [There’s] two clumped together there, one there, one there, about three right there, another one there.” Mr Ozlen continues until he spots a clump of “fifty” bugs on a mattress corner.
“I don’t have time to show you them all but this is no joke, we’re not staying in the Bronx, we’re not staying in Brooklyn, we’re not staying in Queens. This is Manhattan.”
“I can’t believe it, they’re everywhere on the bed.”
“I hope no one ever stays here again.”

Mr Ozlen then proceeded to pan the camera to his girlfriend’s skin, which was covered in bites across her body. She had slept in the infested bed the previous night, Mr Ozlen claimed, and suffered approximately 75 bites to her fingers, arms, toes, and stomach.
An exterminator confirmed to the Gothamist the little critters were indeed bed bugs.
Located on the Upper West side of Manhattan, the Astor on the Park hotel sits right near Central Park, and is in the same neighbourhood that stars Jerry Seinfeld, Matt Damon and Law and Order: SVU’s Mariska Hargitay call home.
It has a 3-out-of-five star rating on Trip Advisor.
“It looked like black mud was jammed into the seam of the bed,” he told the New York Daily News.
“I lost it. They looked like they could hurt horses. It was a colony, a breeding ground.”
A hotel employee told the New York Post he had been “instructed” not to make any comment about Mr Ozlen’s accusations.
“If we had seen that a couple of days ago, we probably would have checked out and gone and stayed somewhere else,” Katie Phillips, an Australian tourist staying at the hotel, told ABC News.
The hotel has since apologised to Mr Ozlen and refunded his money.

According to WebMD, “bedbugs are small, oval, brownish insects that live on the blood of animals or humans. Adult bedbugs have flat bodies about the size of an apple seed. After feeding, however, their bodies swell and are a reddish colour.
“Although they are a nuisance, they do not transmit diseases.”
