Who is Arsenal starlet Jeff Reine-Adelaide?

The Emirates Cup is not the most prestigious of tournaments, but it can be significant for the development and emergence of Arsenal's young players and it was eduring this competition that we first heard of Jeff Reine-Adelaide.

Jack Wilshere made his first real impact on the first team during the 2009 edition. Those who saw him score twice over the course of the competition would not have been surprised to see the player he has developed into. Aged 17, he outclassed significantly older opposition, winning the man of the match trophy in both games.

Reine-Adelaide came off the bench to impress against Lyon

Since then, Arsene Wenger has used the Cup as an opportunity to blood other youngsters. This year's edition saw the emergence of Reine-Adelaide, who starred against Wolfsburg.

Wenger was clear after Saturday's game against Lyon that he sees Reine-Adelaide as a potential start of the future.

He said at the time: "Reine-Adelaide is something special you know. He is a great talent and when he came on you could see that - 17 years old let's not forget that. In fact I don't remember how I played at 17 but I didn't play like that!"

'Something special' is not a phrase that a veteran manager like Wenger would throw around without reason.

A manager like Wenger knows not to put more pressure than a player can handle on their shoulders

There was evidence of his special talent against the Bundesliga side. He repeatedly befuddled Sebastian Jung on the right side of the Wolfsburg defence. A particularly impressive moment saw him perform a series of stepovers before checking back inside and then moving back onto his left to put in a dangerous cross which had to be cleared.

He also assisted Theo Walcott's opener for the Gunners, cutting in from the left before threading a beautiful through ball to the England international.

Another pass for Walcott from the centre almost gave Arsenal their second, had Wolfsburg goalkeeper Benaglio not come quickly and early to clear the danger.

Who is this wonderkid? Wenger signed him from Lens in May after the French side were relegated to Ligue 2. Combined with the transfer of Yassin Fortune, the deal only cost a reported £3 million.

Reine-Adelaide has been capped by France's Under-17 side, but it surely won't be long before he steps it up another level internationally. Aside from that, he's made very few competitive appearances.

Impressively for a player who didn't even have a Wikipedia page, Reine-Adelaide has forced his way into Wenger's thoughts and is on the verge of making his first Premier League appearance after being named on the bench against West Brom.
