JOHN Cleese knows something about poorly-run hotels. The comedian has slammed one place that even Basil Fawlty would likely be ashamed of.

The 76-year-old, who played a bumbling hotelier in Fawlty Towers, has taken to Twitter to blast one hotel he stayed at in Sweden.

“Just stayed in excellent hotel the @elitehotels Karlstad. Efficient, friendly, very good food. Nice 14th centruty lifts too,” he said. “In marked contrast to @elitehotels Linkoping. Here’s the view into the corridor from my room.”

“It’s not a hotel. It’s a construction site with optional accommodation,” he said. “Quite a nice shower, but no soap dish. How’s this possible? Were they distracted by other important work?”

Cleese wrote and starred in all 12 episodes of Fawlty Towers, which also starred Prunella Scales as Basil’s wife, Sybil, chambermaid, Polly, played by Cleese’s then-wife Connie Booth, and Spanish waiter Manuel, played by Andrew Sachs.

Elite Hotels have not responded to the comedian’s complaints publicly. Maybe they think it is best not to mention the war.
