Airline workers caught on camera tossing bag

Toss the bag ... Picture: Chase Platon

WHEN you hand over your luggage at the check-in desk, you trust — or rather, hope — the airline will do the right thing and look after it.

But passenger Chase Platon was left shocked when he watched employees repeatedly throwing a suitcase on the ground at Mineta San Jose International Airport in California.

So he started filming, with his video watched more than 100,000 times since being uploaded to Facebook.

“I would be pretty mad, obviously I was a little concerned because I had just checked in my bag ... so I was a little peeved,” he told KPIX 5.

He added on Facebook: “Seriously! The guy saw me and didn’t bat an eye!”

“It looked like they were all having fun. An airport is not the kind of place where you’d expect something like this, especially in this day and age.

“Honestly, I couldn’t believe it.”

While Mr Platon initially accused Southwest Airlines staff of being involved, it turns out it was actually Alaska Airlines staff as the airlines share a terminal.

A spokesman for Alaska Airlines has since apologised, but says the bag was full of old magazines.

“Regrettably, our employees were tossing a company rollaboard bag that was filled with magazines as part of an employee game,” the spokesman told the UK’s Telegraph.

“No passenger bags were used for this activity. This game should not have been played at the airport.

“The optics of the video are unfortunate and we apologise for any confusion this has caused San Jose travellers or Southwest Airlines.”
