'Arsenal are favourites' to win the Premier League, says Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher thinks Arsenal are now favourites to win the Premier League title following their win over Manchester City.

The Sky pundit, speaking in the aftermath of Arsenal's 2-1 triumph over City at the Emirates Stadium, said that the points cushion Arsenal have built up will be vital in seeing through their title ambitions.

Arsenal currently sit second in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Leicester and four clear of the defeated Citizens in third.

"I think they're just favourites," said Carragher.

"They will need the four-point cushion because of the away games they've got coming up."

The former England international was adamant that Arsenal hadn't had such a clear shot at the Premier League title in years, and that similar opportunities could be limited in future years.

"At this moment, what they've got is performing better than anyone," he said.

"The other teams have dropped off and Arsenal have maintained the level they've had.

Are they going to be in this position again next season? When you look at what other teams are going to bring, I would say not. So they have to take advantage."

In his post-match comments, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger exalted his playing staff.

"When we hadn't the legs any more, the spirit got us through in the end," he said.

Asked what was different about Arsenal this year, compared to the Gunners teams whose title ambitions have previously failed to come to fruition, Wenger highlighted his squad's greater experience.

"Our belief is stronger, we have more maturity now in the side and you see in these games it comes out. When we were under pressure we could deal with it.

"This time we lost some very important players in our squad, and we win the games. Every win strengthens your belief."
