Danish Girl Oscar Buzz Grows Louder For Redmayne

Eddie Redmayne is preparing to be surrounded by Oscar buzz once again as his latest film has its premiere in London.

The British star won the best actor Oscar earlier this year for playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything.

Redmayne's latest role is as transgender artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl and many critics are already suggesting he could collect his second Oscar in February.

Elbe was born Einar Wegener and underwent a series of operations in the early 1930s to become a woman.

She has been described by Redmayne as "an icon of the 20th century", and "an extraordinarily courageous and brilliant woman".

The 33-year-old has already moved to shrug off suggestions he might win the coveted prize again.

Speaking at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this year, he said: "As far as I am concerned it has been such a long road to coming out into the world that frankly the fact that people are beginning to see it means everything to us."

Redmayne said he, along with the cast and crew, spent a year speaking to transgender people ahead of the film.

The Danish Girl, directed by Tom Hooper and also starring Alicia Vikander and Amber Heard, premieres in Leicester Square and is due for release in UK cinemas on 1 January.
