The first trailer for the Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them gives audiences their first look at an unseen aspect of JK Rowling's wizarding world.
Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne plays magizoologist Newt Scamander in the movie based on Rowling's 2001 book.
The film, which marks Rowling's screenwriting debut, sees Scamander accidentally unleash magical creatures on New York in 1926 - 70 years before Harry's story begins.
"Yesterday a wizard entered New York with a case, a case full of magical creatures - and unfortunately some have escaped," Tina (Katherine Waterston) tells an assembly.
The trailer, released by Warner Brothers on Tuesday, then shows Redmayne in his bedroom opening the case to reveal the sounds of roaring creatures inside - and slamming it shut straight away.
"It was open?" Tina asks him.
"Just a smidge," he responds.
Redmayne is also seen dramatically casting a spell on the streets of New York. Another scene shows a figure in the debris of Scamander's destroyed room.
Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them is inspired by the textbook of the same name written by Scamander and given to pupils at Hogwarts school - but there will be no sign of Harry Potter in this film.
It is directed by David Yates, the film-maker behind the final four Potter movies.
Starring alongside Redmayne and Waterston is Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller and Jon Voight.
Redmayne won the best actor Academy Award for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything.
The British actor recently starred in The Danish Girl as Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sexual reassignment surgery.
:: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is scheduled for release in November 2016
