Comic King Stan Lee's Lucky Man Comes To Sky

He is behind some of the most famous comic book heroes, including Spider-Man and X-Men, but now Stan Lee has created a new drama for Sky looking at the nation's relationship with luck and superstition.

Lucky Man is a 10-part series starring James Nesbitt as troubled police office Harry Clayton who is a compulsive gambler who has lost his home and marriage.

He meets the enigmatic Eve (played by Sienna Guillory) who gives him a bracelet which is said to bring the wearer immense luck.

Harry's fortunes begin to change but he soon finds himself at the centre of a crime wave in London.

The series also stars Eve Best, Amara Karan and Steven Mackintosh.

Lee, who is 93, may have given his super heroes all kinds of powers over the years but said luck is one thing he has not used as a concept.

"I have always thought that luck would probably be the greatest power of all, because if you are lucky, everything turns out right.

"Luck is something that affects everybody and everybody can relate to it."

The former president and chairman of Marvel Comics said he has had some lucky breaks of his own in his life, including his mother insisting he did a lot of reading and getting a job in a publishing house's comic-book department.

Lee has become something of an icon himself after making a number of cameo appearances in films based on his characters.

His most recent cameos include playing a bartender in 2015's Ant-Man and a military veteran in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

Nesbitt explained why he wanted to be part of Lucky Man: "There are so many things that make this story amazing, it just seemed so different to me.

"It’s a Stan Lee creation. There’s a great hero, and a massive thriller element to the show."

:: Lucky Man starts tonight at 9pm, on Sky 1.
