But behind the scenes he's gone the extra mile, as this animated cartoon by JJ Bull shows. In it, Jurgen Klopp reveals the steps he has taken to prevent Daniel Sturridge from injuring himself anymore including putting soft foam on all sharp corners and developing an innovative, ground breaking muscle scanning machine. Which probably actually exists in real life.
Despite being 26 years old, Sturridge has only played 60 times for Liverpool in nearly three years - a sobering statistic and one which shows just how disrupted his time at Anfield has been. Getting a fit Daniel Sturridge back will be a priority for Klopp, especially considering that in those 60 games, Sturridge has scored 37 times.
Earlier in December, Klopp planned to use Sturridge against Watford before he suffered yet another injury:
“It is no knee, no hip, no foot injury, it’s just a little hamstring. But this is a sign that it was too much for him. We have to try, together with him, to make it more resistant. The problem is Daniel had his injuries, but, after two days, the question is always, 'Is he available?’. I say, 'No, of course not’. Then another striker gets injured, so we say, 'Come on, let’s try’. But he had absolutely no pre-season. He started training, I’m not 100 per cent sure when. Then he started playing – another injury. Then he has 10 days, another game. That is the problem.
“There are two different things we have to look on. The one is the injury and the other is how we bring him into shape so it’s not so intensive for him when he needs to train. The good thing with the muscle injury is he could start to run and all the others things he needs, but not play football. The injury is not that serious, but we have to build up his resistance.”
