Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg says 'likes' could be used to help stop Islamic State (IS) recruiters.
The social network's chief operating officer says a "like attack" in Germany may provide inspiration for targeting IS online.
She pointed to a recent effort by German Facebook users who flooded the page of a neo-Nazi party with positive messages, and lots of 'likes'.
She said: "What was a page filled with hatred and intolerance was then tolerance and messages of hope.
"The best thing to speak against recruitment by IS are the voices of people who were recruited by IS, understand what the true experience is, have escaped and have come back to tell the truth.
"Counter-speech to the speech that is perpetuating hate we think by far is the best answer."
On the same day at Davos, Alphabet’s director of Google Ideas Jared Cohen said forcing IS agents off the internet "could be where we can see greater short-term wins".
US politicians have complained that the companies are not doing enough to keep terrorists away from civilians online.
Donald Trump said last month that he wanted to talk to Microsoft founder Bill Gates about “closing the internet up” in some places to stop IS.
