Kevin Payne’s daughter is frisked by security at the airport.
A FATHER is outraged that his 10-year-old daughter was patted down by a Transport Security Administration (TSA) agent for nearly two minutes all because she forgot her juice box in a carry-on bag.
Kevin Payne from California said the female agent inappropriately touched daughter Vendela several times at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina, and that she “felt like screaming” after it was over.
A TSA agent told Payne it was proper procedure to pat her down after the alarm went off, also telling him that “we don’t live in a ‘make-sense’ world.”
Payne, who caught the screening on video, told ABC News’ Good Morning America that he felt it was “incredibly inappropriate, very invasive” and that the pat-down “violated” his daughter.
Payne said he hasn’t made a formal complaint to the TSA but may do so depending on the reaction to his video.
“TSA screening procedures allow for the patdown of a child under certain circumstances,” a spokesperson for the TSA told ABC News.
“The process by which the child was patted down followed approved procedures.”
According to the TSA, the girl’s bag contained “a cellphone that alarmed, requiring additional resolution procedures” and that the pat-down was “observed by the parent.”
Commenters on YouTube seem divided, with some saying the pat-down was a normal response to a false-positive test for explosive, though maybe shouldn’t have been done in public, and another saying it was “nothing more than public molestation.”
