Game Of Thrones Season Six Premiere Date

Fans of Game Of Thrones have had to hunt for clues about season six in pictures from the set and cryptic tweets but now at least they know when it will hit their screens.

The first episode of the latest series of the hit fantasy show will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic at 2am on Monday 24 April when it is simulcast with HBO in the US (9pm ET).

A repeat of the episode will be also shown at the more sociable time of 9pm on the Monday night.

The news comes just days after author George RR Martin revealed that he had missed the second deadline for the latest novel in his series, A Song Of Fire And Ice, which the programme is based on.

It means The Winds Of Winter will "almost certainly" not be coming out before the sixth season of the show premieres.

Martin has worked with writers and producers to help the TV series mirror the fantasy novels.

But the forthcoming season will reportedly use an outline of events from the new book rather than fully finished material.

On Thursday HBO confirmed that it is close to securing a deal for seasons seven and eight.

The principal Game Of Thrones cast members such as Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey originally only signed up for six seasons but are thought to have received hefty pay rises after signing for series seven.

The world premiere of season five of Game Of Thrones was held at London's Tower of London last year.

It is not known if a similar star-studded event will be held in the capital again in a few months.

Late last year HBO tweeted a photo showing a bloodied, but crucially, not dead, Jon Snow and storylines are also thought to follow Bran and Sansa Stark and Daenerys Targaryen.
