Liverpool's new signing has revealed an intense phobia nearly forced him to call his transfer off at the last minute.
The Serbian midfielder will return to Red Star Belgrade on a season-long loan deal after completing his move to Anfied, but the 19-year-old has revealed his phobia of small spaces nearly scuppered the deal at the final hour.
As is customary with all transfer deals Grujic was required to undergo a full medical before the transfer could be officially completed.
However the young midfielder has admitted that when he found out that an MRI scan was part of the examination he considered pulling out of the deal.
In an interview with the Liverpool Echo Grujic revealed: "I am very claustrophobic, so it was very scary for me to lie for one hour in the dark in the MRI scanner.
"When I heard that the MRI scan was compulsory, I was very close to saying that I didn't want to do it! I was really afraid. I couldn't stay inside it for one minute!
Claustrophobia is defined as the irrational fear of confined spaces and affects nearly 10% of the UK population.
Grujic was persuaded by Melwood training ground doctors to take the mandatory scan after a lengthy delay.
"I called the doctor and raised a bit of panic so they were persuading me for around 20 minutes before I finally accepted to go inside it again.
Liverpool have allowed Grujic to return to his former club on loan despite being mired in an injury crisis that seems them without 11 first team players.
