Amazon Contract Has Zombie Apocalypse Clause

Amazon has launched a free-to-use platform for video game development which comes with a bunch of restrictive terms of service.

The powerful system cannot, for example, be used for safety-critical equipment, powering spacecraft or military endeavours.

That is, except, in one specific situation: the fall of society caused by a zombie apocalypse.

Its terms and conditions state that restrictions "will not apply in the event of the occurrence .. of a widespread viral infection."

The infection must be certified by the United States Centres for Disease Control, and be "transmitted via bites or contact with bodily fluids that causes human corpses to reanimate and seek to consume living human flesh, blood, brain or nerve tissue and is likely to result in the fall of organised civilization".

The engine is called Lumberyard and is based on the powerful CryEngine, and the tool is technically free for developers to use.

To use it, however, they will have to pay for cloud computing services from Amazon, currently the world leader in the field.

Business is booming for the Seattle-based company - last month it announced plans to create 2,500 jobs in the UK in 2016, as it expands thanks to strong demand.
