Bataclan Band Having 'Good Time' At Paris Gig

Eagles of Death Metal, who were on stage when Islamist gunmen carried out a massacre at Paris' Bataclan theatre, have been performing in front of survivors.

The US rock band were cheered and applauded as they started their set at the Olympia venue, a few miles from where 90 of their fans were killed on 13 November.

The group's frontman Jesse Hughes told the crowd on Tuesday: "We are having a good time tonight - amen! Ain't nobody going to stop us."

The gig - their first solo concert in the French capital since the terror attacks - is being seen as a key moment in reviving morale in the city.

As they appeared on stage, an old song by French singer Jacques Dutronc called Paris s'eveille (Paris Wakes Up) was played.

The victims died when Islamic State militants stormed the Bataclan and opened fire as the group were performing. The venue is still closed.

Many survivors were expected to attend the Olympia concert in tribute to the victims.

Members of the band met around 60 survivors on Monday and the group which represents 500 of them, Life for Paris, said many would only decide whether to go or not at the last minute.

In December, Eagles of Death Metal joined U2 on stage at the Irish band's concert in Paris in a show of unity.

Meanwhile, Hughes has claimed if everyone had guns, the theatre massacre may never have happened.

Hughes - a member of America's National Rifle Association and a supporter of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump - questioned whether France's strict gun control laws had saved any lives that tragic night.

"I don't think so. I think the only thing that stopped it was some of the bravest men that I've ever seen in my life charging head first into the face of death with their firearms," he told French TV station iTele.

"I know people will disagree with me ... but that night guns made them equal.

"And I hate it that it's that way... Until nobody has guns everybody has to have them."

He revealed in earlier separate interview: "I don't go anywhere in America without a gun anymore. That sucks. And I'm not paranoid. I'm not a cowboy ... but I want to be prepared."

Some 130 people were killed in a series of coordinated shootings and suicide bombings across Paris in November.
