Bruce Springsteen is to release his first autobiography - and has promised to "show the reader his mind".
The 66-year-old is reported to have received a $10m (£6.9m) advance for Born To Run, though this has not been confirmed by publishers Simon & Schuster.
The book, which has taken seven years to write, will be released internationally on 27 September.
"Writing about yourself is a funny business," said Springsteen, who has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide.
He adds: "But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind.
"In these pages, I've tried to do this."
The book will share the "poetry, danger, and darkness" that inspired Springsteen as he grew up in Freehold, New Jersey.
It will also reveal the unknown meaning behind his famous Born To Run single.
Ian Chapman, CEO at Simon & Schuster UK, said: "If you were to ask any publisher to name a cultural figure whose autobiography would provoke the greatest enthusiasm, Bruce Springsteen's name would be on every list."
