Danny Cipriani 'snubs Toulon to re-join Wasps'

Danny Cipriani will leave Sale Sharks at the end of the season and join former club Wasps, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claims the England fly-half has agreed a two-year deal worth around £300,000 a season after rejecting offers from Toulon and Harlequins.

Cipriani's form has lifted at Sale

The deal could even be announced in the next 48 hours with Cipriani, who has a year remaining on his contract, set to trigger a break clause at Sale, who he joined in 2013.

Cipriani, 28, began his professional career as an 18-year-old with Wasps. He also burst onto the England scene, but with a liking for the spotlight and London practically on his doorstep, the flamboyant No 10 often found himself in the news for the wrong reasons and he left under a cloud to join Melbourne Rebels.

However, since returning to England with Sale, Cipriani has ressurected his career and narrowly missed out on a place in Stuart Lancaster's World Cup squad.

He has also failed to break his way into Eddie Jones's thinking so far, prompting speculation he would chase the Euro with big-spending French outfit Toulon.

Cipriani still harbours England ambitions

Cipriani, though, has been encouraged by Jones not to give up on his England ambitions and will stay in the Aviva Premiership - in Coventry.

Signing Cipriani would also be a big signal of intent from Wasps, who have put previous financial worries behind them to find commercial strength at their new base - Coventry's Ricoh Arena.

Sale were due to hold a scheduled press conference today ahead of Saturday's Premiership clash against Worcester but have postponed until tomorrow, suggesting a Cipriani announcement is imminent.
