The new Milk Tray Man won the part after giving a bystander a fireman's lift in the audition.
Patrick McBride, who combines being a full-time fireman with work as a part time model, impressed judges with his actions during their search last year for someone to reprise the role.
He will be the first for 13 years to play the advertising action hero who battles all in his path to hand over a box of Cadbury's chocolates.
The 39-year-old from Liverpool said: "At the castings I had to talk about myself and what I do in the fire service.
"I decided to put my full fire kit on and asked if anyone minded a fireman's lift, and presented a box of Milk Tray.
"My wife's so happy for me. She's made up. I think it will sink in when the billboards are up and the ads are on TV. I think she'll be pleased she's married to the Milk Tray Man."
Mr McBride beat 20,000 other hopefuls to the role which has been around since the first Milk Tray ad ran in 1968.
The commercials' success led to "All because the lady loves Milk Tray" becoming one of the most quoted lines on TV.
Mr McBride said he has been struggling to keep his new job secret from his colleagues in Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The hunt for the latest Bond-esque figure, who is always shown wearing a black polo neck top, was fronted by James Combes who played the enigmatic hero in 1987.
He said: "I couldn't have picked a better successor myself. I wish him all the best of luck."
