A crooked Secret Service agent who stole Bitcoin while investigating the Silk Road website continued to commit crimes even after he pleaded guilty, prosecutors say.
A search of Shaun Bridges' home, just a day before he was due to surrender for prison earlier this month, uncovered evidence which police say shows he was involved in additional crimes.
They found a passport card, corporate documents for offshore companies, and documents related to his wife's attempt to get citizenship in another country.
An attempt to unseal full details of his arrest was thwarted this week, because investigators say he has committed more crimes with one or more co-conspirators who are still at large.
His initial arrest and conviction came after the trial and conviction of Silk Road mastermind Ross Ulbricht, who ran the dark web marketplace.
Two federal agents - Bridges and Carl Force - were charged with stealing from the site as they investigated it.
Bridges used login details taken from an arrested Silk Road administrator to steal $800,000 (£576,000) of Bitcoins from drug deals.
He pleaded guilty last year to money laundering and obstruction of justice and was sentenced to nearly six years in prison.
In its court filing, the US Government says it believes Bridges committed "a series of additional crimes, including crimes that took place both before and after the date of the entry of his guilty pleas and sentencing".
"Although Bridges himself is in custody ... his co-conspirator(s) remain at liberty and thus, disclosure of the details contained in the search warrant could jeopardise the new investigation."
The nature of Bridges' additional crimes are unclear, however the filing says investigators are aware of "additional thefts of Bitcoins from Secret Service accounts", which the government believes Bridges, while "working with others," was involved in.
