Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are mourning the loss of ... a brand of mustard pickles.
A staple in a traditional boiled dinner, the zesty mixture of mustard and pickles has been discontinued by producer Smucker Foods of Canada Corporation.
"Unfortunately there was not enough consumer demand for multiple mustard pickle brands, and the difficult decision was made to discontinue the product," a company spokesperson told CBC News Friday.
The condiment, which pairs well with salt meat, fish, vegetables and other local dishes, will be gone from the shelves soon, as there will be no more shipments.
It was a Whitbourne businessman who had the uneniable task of breaking the news Thursday.
Not meaning to incite panic ...

It's the latest Newfoundland food crisis to hit the province since the shortage of Carnation and Fussell's tinned cream in 2013.
But the company isn't leaving people completely pickle-less.
In the statement, it said they have "updated" its Bick's Sweet Mustard pickles "to offer consumers a quality replacement."
That produce is set to hit stores in June.
Will it be the same?
Only time will tell.
