Barry Howard, who was best known for appearing in the sitcom Hi-de-Hi!, has died at the age of 78.
The actor played dance instructor Barry Stuart-Hargreaves in the summer camp comedy from 1980 to 1986.
His agent and friend Sharry Clark said he had been suffering from blood cancer and had been ill for some time.
In a statement she said: "The much loved actor Barry Howard, best known for his exquisitely supercilious Barry Stuart-Hargreaves, the champion ballroom dancer in BBC's hugely popular Hi-de-Hi!, passed away today aged 78."
Howard began his career in the theatre before he landed the role in the popular TV series, where he starred alongside Dianne Holland, who played his on-screen wife Yvonne.
