IS THIS the worst membership ad ever released?
Hawthorn does a lot right — lauded not only for their incredible on-field success but also for the professionalism within the club’s administration.
So it begs the question, what were they thinking with their latest attempt at signing new members?

The video, which was released on Tuesday night, depicts premiership players Jordan Lewis, Isaac Smith, James Frawley and youngster Angus Litherland singing One Direction’s latest single History.
And yes, it’s as bad as it sounds.
It’s got it all — from altered lyrics to suit the club’s membership message to the players standing awkwardly in front of the camera unsure what to do while trying to lip sync.
Hawks skipper Luke Hodge was quizzed about the embarrassing video on SEN radio on Wednesday and he had a simple response:
“The more people that sign up the less they’ll see that video,” he said.
”My wife saw it last night and she actually enjoyed it, she thoguht it was good to see the boys not taking it too seriously.
“If we get it to 73k we won’t have to hear that song ever again.”
It’s not the first time the Hawks have gone to such lengths to sign members.
A year ago almost to the day, the club released a video featuring skipper Luke Hodge, Josh Gibson, Brian Lake, Matt Spangher, Lewis, Smith, Duryea and Litherland quoting classic movie lines — changed to suit the membership message — and impersonating the actors.
For a club that has played in the past four Grand Finals, won the past three flags and is chasing a four-peat, it’s hard to comprehend why they’d have to go to these lengths to sign up fans.
