THERE’S nothing more frustrating than waiting in long lines to pass through airport security when you’d rather be shopping on the other side or enjoying a pre-departure drink.
So how do you beat the queues? Here are some tips to make your wait as short as possible.
1. Pick the security line on the left
Research shows that because most of us are right handed we tend to gravitate towards the right, meaning security lines on the left are often less crowded.
2. Choose the security line with the fewest staff
You may think that two agents working is better than one, but according to travel expert Peter Greenberg, more staff usually means someone is in training so always choose the line with only one agent working. “If there’s only one officer, pick that line. If there are two, chances are they’re training one of them, and every bag gets stopped,” he writes on petergreenberg.com.
3. Choose flights when airports are less crowded
Airports tend to be quieter between 11am and 3pm when the business rush has subsided meaning less queues at check-in and security.
4. Wear slip-on shoes
Many airports make you take off your shoes when passing through security. Speed up the process by ditching your lace up shoes and opt for slip-ons such as ballet flats or loafers.
5. Put liquids in a Ziploc bag
Any carry on liquids must be 100mL or less to pass through Australian airport international security and must be carried in a transparent resealable plastic bag. Get prepared before you leave home and have all your liquids organised in a Ziploc bag for a seamless transit through security.
