This is what’s left of abandoned Land of Oz

IF you’re off to see the wizard, you’re probably not going to find him here.

These eerie photographs show what remains of the once popular Land of Oz theme park in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.

Opened by Hollywood star Debbie Reynolds and then young daughter Carrie Fisher in 1970, the park enjoyed a boom for the area, attracting visitors for its quirky themes.

It was initially built in conjunction with a ski resort, but after that failed to attract visitors the boom they had after initially opening the attraction failed and only lasted until 1980.

Actors would dress as each of the Wizard of Oz characters — Dorothy, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow.

It’s reputation was marred by a fire in 1985 in which the original dress worn by Judy Garland’s Dorothy was ruined.

Apart from one annual event run by former employees, the only regular visitors this park gets are urban explorers and photographers.
