A new feature added to the Tinder dating app has been criticised because it reveals which of your Facebook contacts are using it.
The popular smartphone hook-up app announced a new feature on Wednesday called Tinder Social.
It requires you to gather a group of your Tinder-using friends, and swipe through other groups of Tinder-using friends, until you find a match.
But while a Tinder spokesman hailed it as a "better way to go out with friends", some users have criticised it as an invasion of privacy.
That is because the feature shows you a list of your Facebook friends who use Tinder, and even lets you see their profiles.
That means you can see their full description, and the photographs they have chosen to display to potential dates.
This could be a problem for people who want to keep their online dating activities hidden from friends and family on Facebook.
One Twitter user said: "This is a massive invasion of privacy for people using the app."
Another said: "The great thing about this Tinder Social thing is it shows my Facebook friends that have Tinder including people already in relationships."
The feature is opt-out rather than opt-in, meaning it is automatically activated.
In a blog post Tinder told users how to hide themselves from the people they know.
It read: "Any user who would prefer not to be added to groups can opt out of Tinder Social through his/her settings to no longer appear on their friends' lists.
"We are only testing it at this point, but it's important to note Tinder's not a secret considering 70% of users download Tinder because their friends recommend it."
The feature is currently being trialled with a limited number of users in Australia.
