GETTING into Augusta National is like trying to get into the White House, especially the week of the Masters. It’s one of the most exclusive clubs in America, and only select guests are allowed on the grounds.
Jack Nicklaus, being a six-time Masters champion, is of course welcome as he pleases. So in turn, he took fans inside the gates on Tuesday, sharing a look at what it’s like to drive down Magnolia Lane -- the greatest drive in golf.
Strangely enough, Nicklaus was stopped just like every other guest, with two security guards struggling to recognise him.
Security: “Can I see your badge?”
Nicklaus: “I got mine.”
Security: “Yes sir, I need to scan it.”
Nicklaus: “Mine?”
Security: “Oh, how you doin’?” he said, realising who the driver was.
Nicklaus: “You don’t need to scan that, do you?”
Security: “No sir, I sure don’t.”
That wasn’t the only time Nicklaus went unrecognised. The third security guard further up the road also took a second to realise who was driving the car. After noticing it was Nicklaus, the security guard told him, “You go wherever you’d like, young man.”
Seeing what it’s like to drive down Magnolia Lane is special enough, but watching the faces on those security guards is equally great.
