Canada lost 2,100 jobs in April and the unemployment rate stayed steady at 7.1 per cent, according to Statistics Canada.
Manufacturing and natural resources sectors both lost employement, while the retail, food and accommodation sectors added jobs, the agency reported Friday.
Across the country, there were fewer jobs in Alberta and Manitoba, while the numbers increased in British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick, and remained largely unchanged elsewhere.
The small drop in employment was a slight disappointment to economists, who had been expecting the economy to add about 1,000 jobs.
More to come
