Female flight attendant’s air rage

AN American Airlines flight attendant allegedly attacked fellow crew members and US marshals on both legs of an international flight.

Joanne Snow reportedly slapped other flight attendants and shoved, punched or kicked at marshals on American Airlines’ flight 704 from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Frankfurt, Germany, on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Before the flight from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, Snow’s colleagues tried to get her removed from duty and US Air Marshal Joseph D. Fialka said Snow confessed several times before takeoff that she was “crazy” or a “train wreck.”

American Airlines did not replace Snow and she boarded the flight where she allegedly slapped another female flight attendant in the middle galley of the plane. She then attacked Fialka.

“She was quite irrational at this time,” Fialka said in his affidavit. “She proceeded to the back of the plane, I learned that, while in the back of the plane, she grabbed the collar of the clothing (of a female marshal) ... and spoke nonsensical things.”

When Fialka tried to calm Snow, she struck him twice in the chest, he said.

“The force of this action moved me back. I weigh considerably more than Snow.”

When the flight returned to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Snow’s behaviour worsened as her colleagues sought help for her.

“However, while I was preparing to clear customs Snow became more agitated and upset than she had at any point in the previous two days,” Fialka said in his affidavit.

“She was yelling and screaming about various things. I noted that she screamed, ‘the Air Marshals are gonna get me!’

“Snow attempted to bypass the passport control officer and enter the airport. I asked her to stop and she refused to do so. I moved in front of her and again told her to stop, showing her my badge. I told her I was going to detain her for her own safety.

“I directed her to turn around so I could handcuff her because of her erratic

behaviour. She complied and I restrained her with handcuffs. After this, I escorted her to

an interview room. She became non-complaint with me before we got to the room. She

sat down and then laid completely on her side. When I reached down to lift her back up

she kicked me approximately five or six times striking both my legs.”

Snow has been charged with interference with flight crew members and attendants, and assault on an officer or employee of the US.

“We are aware of the incident, along with the subsequent criminal complaint, and take this matter very seriously,” American Airlines spokeswoman Katie Cody said in a statement

“We are co-operating fully with federal law enforcement in their investigation, and are working directly with our employees. The safety and security of our customers and employees is always the top priority.”

Snow was scheduled to appear in court Monday morning but her appearance was cancelled.
