Manchester United transfer news and rumours: 'Louis van Gaal wants to swoop for Gareth Bale and Ashley Cole'

Yesterday it was Cristiano Ronaldo, this morning it's Gareth Bale as The Sun reports how Man Utd are on 'red alert' following the supposed news that the futures of Ronaldo and Baleo (as he is now known) are up in the air.

Apparently, Real's 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Barcelona has plunged Los Blancos into a 'full-blown crisis', which automatically means all their best players are suddenly up for grabs.

Bale is not popular amongst Real fans

Bale, we are told, is United's best bet of bagging a 'Galactico', rather than Ronaldo or Barca's Neymar, who they tried to land last summer. The reason the Welshman is the favourite to leave is because he was judged the worst player on the pitch in a poll of 48,000 fans by Spanish newspaper Marca.

Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal could offer Ashley Cole a sensational Premier League return.

United are looking for short-term defensive reinforcements while they wait on the return of Luke Shaw from injury.

Ashley Cole is out of favour at Roma

Cole is out of favour at Roma and, suggests The Sun, could provide experience, on the cheap, with a six-month deal.

United and Arsenal are trying to prise highly-rated defender Daniele Rugani away from Juventus, reveals Gazzetta World.

The centre-back is one of the top prospects in Italy and shone on loan at Empoli last season, earning a shot at the Juve first team.

Daniele Rugani is one of Italy's most promising youngsters

But Rugani, 21, has struggled to break into the side and, amid interest from two of the Premier League's big guns, is willing to chance a move away from Turin.

A source close to the player reportedly said: "Daniele has earned the right to play first-team football. If they won't give it to him at Juventus, it is only natural he would be enticed by offers from big European clubs."

Van Gaal now faces a battle on his hands to sign Southampton's Sadio Mane, with The Mirror claiming that Chelsea are ready to enter the race.

But both United and Chelsea are looking at goalscoring alternatives having struggled in front of goal so far this season.

Mane agreed a four-year deal when he joined the Saints for £11.8 million from Red Bull Salzburg in September last year.

United midfielder Jesse Lingard, 23, is to discuss a new deal that could see him double his wages to £50,000-a-week.

Jesse Lingard will be rewarded with a new United deal

The Mirror says Lingard and his representatives have been invited to open negotiations on a fresh deal as a reward for breaking into the first team and being called up to Roy Hodgson's England squad.

And finally, in a few years time United may not have to go looking elsewhere for the brightest talents in the game if this goal is anything to go by.

Angel Gomes has again shown he is a star of the future with a wonder strike for the U18s against Derby.

United may have been beaten 4-2 at Moor Farm but Gomes's stunning effort was one of the highlights of the match.

The Metro reports how many at the club are predicting that the 15-year-old Portuguese is destined for greatness and former United winger Nani singled him out for praise when his compatriot was aged at just 14.
