The FBI has announced that agents did not seize Wu-Tang Clan's one-off album when they arrested drug tycoon Martin Shkreli.
The trust fund manager bought the special edition album - which has never been played in public - for $2m (£1.3m).
He was arrested on suspicion of stock fraud on Thursday, and led away from his apartment building by federal agents.
Hundreds of people on Twitter said they hoped the FBI has seized the album as part of the operation, opening up the possibility of the record being obtained using public information laws and eventually being played publicly.
One person even submitted a Freedom of Information request asking for a copy of the album, if it had been seized.
But the FBI dashed the hopes of hip hop lovers, writing on its official Twitter account: "Breaking: No seizure warrant at the arrest of Martin Shkreli today, which means we didn't seize the Wu-Tang Clan album."
Only one copy of the 'Once Upon A Time In Shaolin' double album exists.
After purchasing the album, it was revealed that Shkreli had controverially bought the rights to life-saving drug Daraprim and increased the price by 5,000%.
Wu-Tang's leader RZA recently said: "The sale ... was agreed upon in May, well before Martin Skhreli’s [sic] business practices came to light. We decided to give a significant portion of the proceeds to charity."
Shkreli hit back in an interview this week, published before his arrest, saying: "I’m the most successful Albanian to ever walk the face of this Earth.
"I bought the album. (There's a) big f****** cheque in RZA and Cilvaringz' pocket now, but they’re starting to turn up on me.
"This Wu-Tang thing is starting to get pretty tense. You probably see that increasingly. I’m getting pretty frustrated by it. I bought the most expensive album in the history of mankind and f****** RZA is talking s*** behind my back and online in plain sight."
