Jack Butland has taken the Great British deaf women's football team a huge step closer to making it to the World Cup by donating £5,000 of his own money towards fund-raising for the costs of the trip.
The World Cup takes place in Italy and the British women's team had set a fund-raising target of £10,000 to get the squad there.
Accompanying his donation the Stoke goalkeeper wrote: "Now you're nearly there! Happy New Year and good luck!
Butland's donation means the total of funds raised has soared beyond the halfway mark to £8,110 and the team posted their thanks on Twitter.
Their message read: "Wow! Thank you so much Jack Butland for the £5,000 donation. We are in shock! Just £1,890 to go."

The tournament begins on 18 June and runs through to 2 July but the £10,000 only pays for the team to get to the World Cup, and doesn't cover other costs.
On Twitter, the team said: "£10,000 is only half of the estimated cost to go. Our players will be trying to find the remaining £10,000 in the lead up to the WC(if we go)."

The number of donations appears to have surged since Butland's generous contribution was publicised, with the team now having flown past the original £10,000 milestone.
Late Thursday afternoon the total amount pledged was £12,001.
