Brought much needed calm and assurance to the Chelsea back-four when United stepped up the tempo during a frantic opening. Unluckynot to head Chelsea ahead in the fourth minute.

Tightened up Chelsea’s left after a couple of earlyscares and got forward well, drawing an excellent one-handed save from De Geawhen he seemed certain to put the visitors ahead.

The Brazilian’s energy has been one of the few brightspots in Chelsea’s campaign but he was unable to exert much influence at OldTrafford and was hampered by a second half groin injury.
