The Telegraph Cycling Podcast: Heroes & villains of 2015

In this, the final episode of The Telegraph Cycling Podcast in 2015, Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe are joined by some friends of the podcast to look back at some of the most memorable moments of the year.

Joining the regular hosts are some of the guests who have added their expertise to the podcast over the past 12 months – ITV’s Tour de France presenter Ned Boulting, Sky’s Orla Chennaoui, Eurosport commentator Rob Hatch and our French and Italian correspondents François Thomazeau and Ciro Scognamiglio, of Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport.

This being pantomime season, not all the selections are entirely serious and there’s a boo-hiss nature to the selection of the cycling world’s villains. In fact, Richard and Lionel both select Tinkoff-Saxo team owner Oleg Tinkov as their villain of the year.

Ned tells a great story about Chris Froome from the Tour de France that sheds light on the way rumours spread at the Tour following the Sky rider’s decision to get aboard rival team Astana’s bus to confront Vincenzo Nibali after a crash towards the end of one of the stages.

We don’t want to give too much away, so have a listen. There’s also Lionel’s Christmas message and a thank you to all our listeners who have made 2015 the best year yet for The Telegraph Cycling Podcast.

This is the 90th free-to-air edition of The Telegraph Cycling Podcast released this year and we have plans to make 2016 even better. We’re taking a couple of weeks’ break now so we’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and we’ll be back again in January, around the time the WorldTour season kicks off in Australia with the Tour Down Under.
