Match notes

Arsenal looked exhausted and were utterly ragged at the end of Saturday’s 4-0 defeat by Southampton but still have the chance to go back top of the Premier League with victory today. How they now respond will tell us much about whether their title challenge can endure. Bournemouth are now unbeaten in six matches and, if they play with their usual energy, have the potential to cause another upset. Jeremy Wilson

What's the team news?

Arsene Wenger could make changes after the 4-0 defeat to Southampton. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calum Chambers and Alex Iwobi all impressed off the bench so could start but Alexis Sanchez (hamstring), Jack Wilshere (leg), Mikel Arteta (calf), Francis Coquelin, Danny Welbeck, Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky (all knee) are out.

Harry Arter will be late decision for the visitors after being brought off at half-time in the goalless draw with Crystal Palace to "manage his workload" after recovering from a hamstring injury picked up at the end of November. Lee Tomlin could return from a groin/pelvic injury but Josh King (hamstring) will not be fit to return before the New Year.

Following Arsenal's hammering at Southampton, Arsene Wenger said: "I believe what I say to my players is between my players and myself.

"These players have fantastic spirit and they can show that in 48 hours.

"We are in a job where we have to respond. We want to respond from disappointments.

"Unfortunately, there's no possible career without disappointment. Nobody, not even the best players in the world, can have that.

"It's down to how you respond and I trust my players to respond in a very strong way on Monday."

After Bournemouth's goalless Boxing Day draw with Crystal Palace, Eddie Howe said:

"Now we move into a really tough period where we know we are going to have to be even better.

"I think you are always looking for ways to improve but certainly I have been really pleased with our front line and how we have attacked recent games.

"I think we have been scoring goals regularly, we have been creating chances so I don't think there is anything wrong with what we are delivering."
