David De Gea's new Facebook profile picture sends Manchester United fans into mild panic

In the age of social media, we all know the perils of an ill-judged Facebook profile picture.

David de Gea's latest profile picture on his official page has had some sensitive Manchester United supporters fretting over the 25-year-old's future at Old Trafford.

With the January transfer window now open, supporters are hoping Louis van Gaal will bolster their Premier League chances with some new additions to the squad.

David De Gea looked destined to move to Real Madrid at the end of last season

However David de Gea may have sparked some debate as to whether the Spaniard has his eye set on a move away from Old Trafford with this curious new picture.

De Gea's Facebook page now features the goalkeeper with the Manchester United crest removed from the kit.

For some conspiracy theorists, the change in profile picture was a clear signal the Spaniard was preparing for life away from Manchester United.

The Spanish keeper came within hours of moving to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window and speculation has continued that the 25-year-old's long-term future lies in Spain.

De Gea followed the drama of his failed summer move to Real Madrid by commiting his future to Manchester United by signing a new four-year-contract in September 2015.

With seven clean sheets so far this term, De Gea has been instrumental to Manchester United's mean defensive record in the Premier League.
