The England under-19s World Cup squad will meet on Thursday to be briefed on the latest security situation in Bangladesh after Australia pulled out of the World Cup to be staged there later this month.
The England & Wales Cricket Board is also to send its security advisor, Reg Dickason, to Bangladesh to check on security arrangements before the tournament.
The ECB emailed the England players on Tuesday to update them on the latest security situation and will also rely on advice from the Foreign Office but at the moment the squad will travel as planned.
The decision by Cricket Australia follows the cancellation of a two Test series in Bangladesh in November after security advice from their government in the light of two attacks on westerners in the country by Al Qaeda.
But since then the Australian football team has played in Bangladesh and a lot of western cricketers appeared in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20, where security was lower than at an ICC event, without incident.
The England squad is due to meet on Thursday with Andrew Strauss, the ECB director of cricket, and will be able to ask any questions about safety and security.
If the under-19s squad pull out it would put a major doubt over England’s senior tour to Bangladesh in October when they are due to play two Tests and three one-dayers.
Australia’s place at the under-19s World Cup, which runs from Jan 27 to Feb 14, has been offered to Ireland.
“Regrettably, the advice from our Government suggests that the security threat to Australians travelling to Bangladesh remains as high now as it was when we postponed the Test team's tour of that country late last year," said James Sutherland, the chief executive of Cricket Australia.
"Included in that is reliable information suggesting there is a high threat to Australian interests in Bangladesh. With all of the information and advice we have received, we feel we had no alternative other than to make this difficult decision.”
