Ex-Power Ranger Charged With Roommate's Murder

A former star of the Power Rangers TV series has been charged with his roommate's murder.

Prosecutors said Ricardo Medina, 36, stabbed his roommate "multiple times" with a sword a year ago.

The 36-year was arrested after the attack but released after claiming it was a case of self-defence.

Los Angeles County district attorney's office said it would ask for bail to be set at $1m during the accused's arraignment hearing next Tuesday.

Medina was involved in an argument on 31 January 2015 with Joshua Sutter, 36, at their shared home in Palmdale, California.

Mr Sutter was said to have been angry that his roommate's girlfriend spent too much time at their home when Medina was not there.

The accused said he and his girlfriend went into his bedroom after the row and shut the door.

Medina said he picked up the sword to fend off Mr Sutter as the roommate forced his way into the room and attacked him.

The actor then called 911 and was arrested. Mr Sutter was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mr Sutter's family have disputed Medina's claim of self-defence.

The victim's sister, Rachel Kennedy, told ABC News the post-mortem examination found her brother sustained 10 sharp force injuries.

These were said to have included hand injuries and a stab wound through the abdomen.

Medina played the Red Ranger on Power Rangers Wild Force in 2002 and later played Deker on Power Rangers Samurai.
