What's their transfer budget?
Whatever they want it to be - but at least £100million.
January transfer window closes in
Who's in charge of deals?
Manuel Pellegrini has willfully accepted the City regime since he joined the club. Txixi Begiristain and Ferran Soriano will have their eyes on suitable players for Pep Guardiola, the (presumed) next manager no doubt in private consultancy.
January transfer history
Since the Abu Dhabi takeover City have been among the biggest spenders in all windows. January has been a month when they’ve decided to add goals. Edin Dzeko made his move to The Etihad mid-season, while last season a late move for Wilfried Bony cost £28 million.
What they need
Manuel Pellegrini suggested recently he is short of players. It’s rather like the chef at The Ivy complaining about being short of salad leaves. City already have the most complete squad in the Premier League, but they’ve failed to take control of the title race and will inevitably want more cover in all positions.
What they'll get
Pellegrini will no doubt spend most of January refusing to talk about transfers, insisting the club has no intention of making any bids, only to make on offer of £35 million for John Stones on January 29 (which will be rejected). If City do sign anyone, the current manager won;t have much to do with it.
Key targets
City have a long-term interest in Juventus’ Paul Pogba, but having failed to lure him last summer it’s highly unlikely the ex-United midfielder would be tempted to abandon Champions League ambitions in Italy mid-season. Beyond that, City can afford everyone.
Who could leave
Youngsters such as Patrick Roberts could be loaned out after failing to secure first team football but there are unlikely to be many, if any, senior departures.
