Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has criticised Real Madrid over their habit of changing managers following the dismissal of Rafael Benitez.
Pellegrini knows the boardroom politics at the Bernabeu well, having managed there for a season before being sacked in 2010 to make way for Jose Mourinho.
He said: “At least I finished the year. I knew from the beginning I was not to continue for the next year.
“There were some important differences with the president but it is not strange when you see what happened in Real Madrid in the last five or six years.
“I am sorry about Rafa Benitez because I think he is a manager that deserves respect but it is not strange what happened at Real Madrid.”

Pellegrini’s future at City has looked increasingly uncertain since Pep Guardiola announced last month that he would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Guardiola said on Tuesday that he intended for his next job to be in England but Pellegrini said: “I don’t have a reaction about that or feelings on other managers.”
Sergio Aguero, who is still working his way back to full fitness following a heel injury, is set to start in attack for City when they visit Everton for a Capital One Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday, as Wilfried Bony is injured.
Pellegrini said: “Bony has a kick in his calf so he maybe is not fit for tomorrow but I think in two days more he will be OK.
“I think Sergio is able to play three games in a week with no problem at this moment. His last injury was just a pain in his heel, it was not a muscle injury.”
