Ruud Gullit has told Memphis Depay he risks wasting his potential if he does not focus his attention on improving his performances on the pitch - rather than off it.
Dutch legend Ruud Gullit has offered a few words of advice to Memphis Depay as the winger looks to kick-start his Manchester United career.
“It was a bit easy at the start but then I fell back and you could see it in the way I played," said Depay.
“But you can assume that I’m busy with working on that and getting back to the top.”
However Depay's Dutch compatriot has inferred the winger needs to spend less time enjoying the fruits of fame and fortune off the pitch if he is to fulfil his undoubted potential.
"I am a fan, and I will keep my faith in him but he must do something about the fact that he has been labelled the worst buy in the Premier League in 2015," Gullit wrote in his column for Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf.
"He needs to deliver. He has a lot of qualities, but to fulfil his potential he has to stay low-key in his personal life.
"If you don’t perform, you must not turn up in a brand new Rolls Royce and a new Hummer at the training ground.
"Memphis should concentrate fully on football. It would be a shame if someone like Memphis is going to be wasted because of all this side stuff."
Depay has previously came under fire from another quarter of Dutch football when Pierre van Hoiidjonk suggested the winger's poor attitude was harming his career at Old Trafford.
Saturday's victory over Swansea was Manchester United's first league win in eight matches and the form of Memphis Depay has come udner particular scrutiny.
Former Manchester United striker, Dwight Yorke, claimed Depay was culpable for the first goal that gave Stoke City the lead in their eventual 2-0 defeat at the Britannia.
