Team news

What are the odds?

West Ham: Dimitri Payet returns to the West Ham squad after two months out with an ankle injury.

Defender Winston Reid and winger Victor Moses (both hamstring) are also back in training after spells out but boss Slaven Bilic says they are not match fit and will probably return in the FA Cup against Wolves next weekend.

Left-back Aaron Cresswell missed Monday's 2-1 win over Southampton with a tight hamstring and will be handed a late fitness test. Striker Diafra Sakho (thigh) is still out.

Provisional squad: Adrian, Randolph, Jenkinson, Hendrie, Tomkins, Collins, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Noble, Kouyate, Song, Obiang, Zarate, Payet, Valencia, Carroll, Antonio, Cullen, Oxford, Jelavic, Parfitt-Williams.

Liverpool: Daniel Sturridge could return to the Liverpool team. Jurgen Klopp has been very cautious over the fitness of the striker, who has made only six appearances all season, with a hamstring injury his latest problem.

Fellow striker Divock Origi (hamstring) and midfielder James Milner (calf) are out while Klopp is waiting for news concerning midfielders Jordan Henderson (foot) and Joe Allen (illness).

Provisional squad: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Can, Henderson, Coutinho, Benteke, Lallana, Bogdan, Toure, Randall, Allen, Ibe, Firmino, Teixeira, Sturridge.

What are the managers saying?

Quote We have to maintain the same intensity and if we do that we will do well. We don’t have a specific target; we want to win every game - Slaven Bilic

Quote "I'm a lucky guy so there was a lot of interest from different clubs. If West Ham will talk about this then they can do it. It's a really good club but it was the wrong time for all the clubs, so nothing to do with West Ham or what I think about West Ham." - Jurgen Klopp on West Ham's interest in him during the summer

Key stat

West Ham have won as many Premier League games against Liverpool in their last three meetings (two) as they did in their previous 22 combined.

What are the odds?

West Ham: 3/1

Liverpool: 11/10

Draw: 13/5

How West Ham can win

Much depends on whether Dimitri Payet can rediscover his touch quickly after two months on the sidelines through injury. West Ham have been muddling through in his absence, with results dipping accordingly, but if he is anything like at his best, West Ham should be more unpredictable in attack and be able to pull Liverpool's occasionally suspect defence into all sorts of horrible positions.

How Liverpool can win

Jurgen Klopp's huge band of creative attackers need to play with more cohesion in the opposition's final third. Liverpool might have beaten Sunderland 1-0 on Wednesday but they were not especially convincing, and that was partly down to the likes of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana giving the ball away too cheaply.

Prediction

West Ham to win 2-1.
