Kesha 'Must Stay In Contract' Despite Rape Claim

Pop star Kesha has failed to be freed from a contract with a record producer she accuses of raping her 10 years ago.

The singer, famous for hits like Tik Tok, Timber, and Die Young, claims Dr Luke, whose real name is Luke Gottwald, forced her to "take drugs and alcohol in order to take advantage of her sexually while she was intoxicated".

Kesha made the claims in a civil suit filed in Los Angeles demanding damages and to escape the contracts she has with Dr Luke, with whom she has been contractually tied since she was 18.

Dr Luke, who has worked on a string of hits by the likes of Britney Spears and Katy Perry, denies sexually assaulting Kesha and says the allegations have been made up by the singer purely because she wanted to get out of the contract.

"All of their horrific allegations of abuse, threats and other purported misconduct by me against Kesha are completely untrue and deeply hurtful," he said in a sworn statement in December.

Lawyers for Dr Luke and Sony Music Entertainment - his partner in Kesha's record label, Kemosabe Records - say she is violating a five-album agreement by not recording.

They say she doesn't have to work with him personally, though he has rights to produce at least six songs on each of her albums and could pursue damages if he doesn't.

Kesha watched in tears as Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Shirley Werner Kornreich handed down the ruling before hugging some of the scores of fans gathered to support her as she left court.
