A MUM took her 10-week-old baby on an incredible trip around the world — while she was on maternity leave.
Travel mad Karen Edwards, 31, and her husband Shaun Bayes are both experienced backpackers.
After celebrating the birth of their newborn girl Esmé, the pair sold their car and put their London house up for rent.
Karen’s family told her she was “completely nuts” when they heard she was planning to spend her maternity leave travelling.
In an interview with the MailOnline, Karen said: “Both Shaun and I were keen backpackers before I fell pregnant and everyone thought we were completely nuts when we said that we were going to take Esmé when she arrived.”
Packing just one backpack between them, the family prepared to set off on their journey across the globe.
Karen admits that it was sometimes difficult for the family travelling abroad, especially as they were often on top of each other in small hotel rooms.
It seems as though Esmé inherited travelling genes from her parents as she was unfazed by the whole experience.
Mum Karen explains: “She was really well behaved and because she was small it was easy enough to keep her in the harness when we were on the move.”
In their weeks of travel, the family managed to visit Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
The adventurous mum believes that the once-in-a-lifetime trip was completely worth it.
She said: “We have no regrets, she got to experience new sights, scenes and smells as she grew and that is incredible.”
Young Esmé is now 17 months old and her parents are busy preparing for their next big trip.
Inspirational Karen has now also set up her own blog, Travel Mad Mum, to give tips and encourage other parents to take their little ones travelling.
Her blog introduction reads: “Travelling the world may seem off limits to most new parents. However, it does not have to be that way.
“‘Travel Mad Mum’ aims to inspire other parents with personal experience, factual information and top tips for travelling with little ones.”
