POLICE are baffled after a married legal secretary was found dead at the bottom of laundry chute at a Las Vegas hotel.
Kalli Medina-Brown, 26, was found unresponsive at the D Las Vegas Hotel about 2.30am Sunday (9.30pm Sunday AEDT), but died 10 minutes later.
The Sun reports the Citrus Heights, California woman had been celebrating her forthcoming 27th birthday with her husband, Weslee Brown, and a small group of friends.
Police have launched a murder investigation after Medina-Brown’s death was ruled as suspicious.
Cops initially believed she accidentally fell down the chute. The Clark County coroner is working to determine her cause of death.
Friends who missed the birthday trip have since paid tribute to Medina-Brown, calling her responsible, calm and mature.
“I just ask God that she didn’t hurt. That she wasn’t scared. Or she didn’t feel alone or helpless,” her best friend Carly Worrell told CBS.
Other friends demanded answers over Medina-Brown’s death.
“There has to be justice,” her childhood friend Sierra Roraback wrote on social media.
“In order to have closure on the situation and sleep a little better or something — we have to figure out who did this, we have to figure out what happened,” she added.
Medina-Brown’s grandfather, Tony Fratis, said he had many questions about the young woman’s death.
“We’re pretty much in the dark, as are hundreds of friends and family members here and throughout the western United States,” he told 13 Action News.
“Everybody goes to Vegas to have fun. There’s no way it was suicide. There’s no way in the world.”
Fratis said video filmed inside the hotel showed Medina-Brown walking into the maid’s closest, while her husband walked the other way. The video then went dark.
D Las Vegas Hotel said staff are co-operating with police investigators.
“We are saddened by the unfortunate incident that took place at the D Las Vegas. We are co-operating with the authorities and cannot comment on the ongoing investigation,” the hotel said in a statement.
