A MAN decided the aquarium would be the perfect place to propose to his girlfriend. What could go wrong?
Enter a photobombing stingray that would end up stealing the limelight — in every single photo.
The hilarious snaps were uploaded by Reddit user McYay, and were taken at Ripley’s Aquarium in Toronto, Canada. She was quite bemused that their special moment was well and truly outshone by the curious sea creature.
“We were watching the stingray feeding and at the end of the ‘Ray bay’ show the host asked for two volunteers to play a game and they picked us to go up ... which I thought was weird because it was Family Day (think 1000 children in the place),” she wrote.
“My boyfriend puts his hand up and we get picked, the game is for him to try describing a stingray and me try to guess what type. As he is describing to me ‘it has a tail’ and ‘it’s grey’ I’m thinking I am so embarrassed and this is definitely some sort of prank on me because people in the audience are giggling and gasping.
“The hosts asks me for my answer and I blurt out the name of the only stingray from the show I can remember which is a Roughtail stingray. Host lady says I can turn around and see for myself and tadaaaa. Obviously spend the next 10 minutes crying and laughing at the same time.”
Reddit users both praised and poked fun at the unique proposal.
Unsilentninja wrote: “Creative guy! We were on a vacation and I had the ring in my pocket and I didn’t know when and where I would do it, so I just ... did it. She was happy, so I guess that’s what matters. But yeah kudos to him on the setup! Now comes the fun part!”
SugarandSass wrote: “That is adorable. Congratulations! That stingray must’ve known you were talking about it. Who, me??”

Gumdrumveee wrote: “The funniest thing in this picture for me is that it looks like the diver is trying to clap for you underwater.”
It just goes to show that stingrays definitely aren’t shy — and any doubters should check out this incredible photobomb from back in 2012.
A group of women were posing for the camera at the Cayman Islands when a sneaky stingray got in on the action. The hilarious image quickly went viral.
Schoolteacher Sarah Bourland said at the time how the photographer asked the trio to pose with the stingray in front, and then as a joke he put it on their backs without them knowing.
