Former EastEnders actress Rula Lenska had been drinking vodka with Polish builders before she crashed her car with her three-year-old grandson in the back, a court has heard.
The 68-year-old was banned from driving for 16 months after she admitted a charge of drink-driving at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court.
Her grandson was inside her Kia when it hit a parked car and flipped onto its side in Twickenham, southwest London, just after 7pm on 22 February.
She had become distracted by emergency lights on her dashboard.
Witnesses who ran to help the pair said they smelt alcohol on her breath.
Prosecutor Mary Atere told the court both the defendant and her grandson were "removed via the boot of the vehicle".
Lenska was arrested after a breath test which the court heard showed 47 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of her breath.
The legal limit is 35 micrograms.
Seema Parikh, defending Lenska, said the smash had "haunted" the actress "every day since".
Describing the events that led to the crash, she told the court: "Earlier in the afternoon she has toasted the completion of her garden fence with her Polish builders and they had a vodka to drink."
The court heard Lenska felt "quite normal" later in the evening when her daughter asked her to drop the toddler home.
"She would not have risked her own grandson's life in this kind of situation," said Ms Parikh.
Lenska, of Chiswick, west London, was also fined £410.
In a statement afterwards she expressed "remorse" for what happened and looked forward to putting the matter behind her.
