Madonna: Risque Met Gala Outfit Was 'Political'

Madonna has defended the racy outfit she wore to the glamorous Met Gala on Monday, calling it a "political statement".

The singer wore a black Givenchy ensemble that exposed her thong and barely covered her breasts.

Some people on social media ridiculed her fashion choice, prompting her to hit back in an Instagram post.

She wrote: "My dress at the Met Ball was a political statement as well as a fashion statement.

"The fact that people actually believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age is proof that we still live in an ageist and sexist society.

"If you have a problem with the way I dress it is simply a reflection of your prejudice. I'm not afraid to pave the way for all the girls behind me."

The Met Gala saw the likes of Lady Gaga, Emma Watson and Katy Perry add a futuristic touch to their red carpet outfits – as this year's event was tech-themed.

Every attendee at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was hand-picked by Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and tickets reportedly cost £20,500.
