Bacary Sagna admits he was not ready to play in Manchester City's defeat to Liverpool

Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna admitted his experience in Paris on the night of the terrorist attacks impacted on his performance in Saturday’s heavy defeat to Liverpool.

City were unrecognisable from the side tipped to win the title earlier in the season, with Sagna suggesting he was not as physically prepared for a return to action as he thought.

He was part of the France team that played in Stade de France when it was targeted by suicide bombers.

“It was not easy to be part of that event,” said Sagna. “Mentally I was ready. Physically I believe I was. But I wasn't. I tired quite quickly and didn't have as much power as I used to.

“Personally it's not my best week. But it's life, it's life and there's nothing you can do about it. It's part of the past now and just have to keep your head up.

“It's never easy when you come back from the national team and some of us have played many games. You don't have time to train, you don't have time to work.”

Sagna accepted his own culpability in the defensive errors that contributed to City’s woes.

“We were not good enough to compete and that's it,” he said. “I don't want to blame the team, I look at myself first and I was bad. I don’t want to blame another guy. I was bad.”
